University of West Alabama, located in Livingston, Alabama is also officially referred to as UWA or U-DUB and U-WAH by students. The university was established in 1835 and it currently offers a great variety of degree programs, being also the scene of some major sporting events and also entertainment activities such as concerts or theatrical productions. The university has passed a series of events that influenced its development and even the name of the institution was changed several times, until it became University of West Alabama in 1995, under the presidency of Don C. Hines. UWA Athletics are called the West Alabama Tigers, or simply UWA Tigers, compete in Division II of NCAA as members of the Gulf South Conference East Division. UWA Tigers are colored in red and white and their mascot is Luie the Tiger. Besides the varsity sports, University of West Alabama provides also a wide range of intramural sports programs, such as the 18-hole disc golf course which is a new addition to the UWA campus.
